Clinical studies

La Roche-Posay water has unique therapeutic properties, which have been proven in clinical studies for their ability to regulate the immune system, soothe inflammation, accelerate healing and improve the suppleness and elasticity of the skin.

Most dermatological conditions are chronic and recurring. They share common symptoms, all of which can be significantly improved by thermal treatments, particularly in the case of the more severe pathologies.

POST CANCER

  • The 'Senothermes®' clinical trial: scientific validation of La Roche-Posay's Post-Breast Cancer treatment.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women. The treatment of non-metastatic breast cancer often involves a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and hormone therapy. Each of these treatments can cause toxicity, and in particular, some side effects on the skin. In response to these effects, the La Roche-Posay Spa offers post-cancer balneotherapy for the management of dermatological toxicities, such as burns and scars induced by surgery and radiotherapy.
The 'Association Francophone des Soins Oncologiques de Support' (AFSOS) carried out, with 10 French medical reference centres*, a prospective randomised controlled trial at the La Roche-Posay thermal baths between 2014 and 2018. The aim was to evaluate the effectiveness of balneotherapy on xerosis in 109 patients who had undergone surgery and radiotherapy for breast cancer.

The study demonstrated significant efficiency on the xerosis observed after post-operative radiotherapy for breast cancer.
Xerosis: -70%.
Pain: -30%.
Surgical scar characteristics: -60
The results also show an improvement in overall health and quality of life. These results demonstrate the multiple benefits of balneotherapy and how well it is tolerated. It also highlights the importance of support care for patients in the post-cancer treatment period.

ECZEMA

  • 2012 study, on La Roche Posay thermal spring water, carried out by the La Roche Posay Dermatology Laboratory.
  • 2014 study, observational study on 108 atopic patients undergoing a cure at La Roche Posay.
  • QACTUS - Study in progress: Children's dermatitis - Implementing a study on the quality of life of patients and their families during and after a thermal cure at La Roche Posay.

PSORIASIS

  • Qualitative observational study on 199 psoriasis patients in 2012.
  • A qualitative observational study carried out on 199 patients suffering from psoriasis and who underwent a thermal cure at La Roche Posay in 2012, shows an average PASI score of 17.6 at the beginning of the cure (= severe psoriasis) which drops to 7.8 at the end of the cure (= moderate psoriasis). Thermal cures are an effective treatment for psoriasis. They brighten the skin, increase the intervals between recurrences, lower the need for medications, and provide useful psychological support.

SCARRING AND BURNS

  • Observational study in progress on the benefits of La Roche Posay’s thermal cure on scarring and burns.
