POST-CANCER

Nathalie, 40 years old, has been taking a cure following tongue cancer (Oct 2021)

It was August 2018. I had consulted a doctor in January of that year because of a mouth ulcer that prevented me from sleeping at night, and I was told that I had tongue cancer after over 7 months of diagnostic errancy, and all kinds of exams, given by my GP, my ENT, my stomatologist, etc. What a “waste of time”!

The doctors couldn't see anything on the scan, the first biopsy revealed nothing.
This cancer is quite rare, especially in young, non-smoking people like me, and quite unknown, and above all difficult to diagnose. That's why I want to tell you about it.

At the time I was 36 years old, with two children (4 and 7) and an intense professional career, as I was the executive assistant to the financial director in a private sector company.

I thought I would be able to return to work quickly.

After going through several long hospital treatments, including 3 operations, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, I had to manage my care at home.

I was unable to eat and speak for more than 6 months; I thought I would never eat again except through this tube.

It was with the help of my nurse and my maxillofacial physiotherapist that I managed to regain the desire to eat.

They managed to give me a boost.
I also benefited from the support of the Maison Rose de Bordeaux for all the support care, and from the League Against Cancer for a large number of home treatments.
The Bordeaux University Hospital then told me about the La Roche-Posay Post-Cancer Thermal Cure.

I have been coming here for 3 years now and it does me a world of good.

In the first year, the idea was mainly to improve the tracheotomy scar and rehabilitate my mouth with oral care.

In the second year, I realised that these three weeks away allowed me to retreat from my daily life and take time for myself.

After trying out the conferences and the spa in the first year, hiking in the second, I made a promise to a friend to do the flashmob this year. I also took advantage of my weekends in La Roche-Posay to spend some time with my girlfriends.

I didn't think I'd be back next year, but I'm going to do everything I can to fit these three weeks into my schedule while I manage my return to work. I really need it, if only to disconnect from my personal problems.

Beyond the psychological benefits, I have gained mobility in my neck, back and shoulders and I have much less pain. It's a lot of work in the long run, but the results are so long lasting!

Valérie, curist in the aftermath of breast cancer treatment in La Roche-Posay (Nov 2015)

Hello,
I would like to give a testimonial about my post breast cancer treatment. I had a mastectomy with axillary curage at the end of 2013, and my doctor suggested a cure in 2014, which I refused, thinking that I didn't need it, and then in 2015, I acted on the advice of a friend, and I decided to go.

I finished my cure on the 14th of November 2015, and I am delighted with the results: my scar is supple, the pain has practically disappeared, my arm has become lighter and more mobile.

On top of the treatments, I was delighted to meet a competent team, who really took good care of us.

Furthermore, the Tourism Office offers many activities, with walks, visits of the local heritage, conferences, and the latter have helped me become more aware of my diet.

I would like to thank the whole support team and the guest speakers at the conferences.

Valérie

Eczema

Lise, 6 years old, underwent a thermal treatment for her eczema (April 2016)

Our little girl Lise, who is now 6 years old, has been suffering from eczema since she was 5 months old. So often have we heard from doctors, dermatologists and allergists that "with age, it will pass".

But as the months and years went by, the eczema persisted. We felt powerless. In November, she still wouldn’t manage to sleep! There was no respite, we couldn't rest because if we let her cry, she would start bleeding. Life at home became unbearable. Her sister was starting to lose her footing, her father couldn't cope physically or mentally. Her nanny didn't know how to deal with her, and I would go off to work with my head in the sand, having slept only 1 or 2 hours at best.

After the cure, when we returned home, things started falling into place gradually. Everyone had found their place again in the family. At last we we able to share a meal together without Lise crying or scratching. Seven months have now passed since the cure, and Lise is like any other child. She still has patches on her legs and elbows, but I haven't had to use any cortisone since we got back.

There are occasional flare-ups but nothing like it was before. She is happy and smiles all the time which is a real relief to us all. Those three weeks made the eczema disappear. We realised that it was possible to do something about it. And what a delight to see our little girl finally breathe, determined to get rid of it! She had learned a lot during those three weeks. She can now take care of herself in a more independent way.

Psoriasis

Christine, with psoriasis (2016)

Following chemo treatment ten years ago now, I noticed the deterioration of my skin due to psoriasis. The first dermatologist I went to see simply prescribed a ointment with cortisone. The second one did the same. No one made any suggestions for a cure!

It was while I was watching a medical programme on TV that I had the idea, and as I couldn't bear it any longer, I asked my doctor for treatment, which he gladly prescribed. Good for me! I underwent treatment in April 2016, and since, it’s all gone, except for some minor scars on my arms! Of course, I continue to use La Roche-Posay products only.

The result of this single treatment was so good that the doctors don't think I need any more treatment - "you don't have any lesions anymore", they told me.

Spa client testimonials

Jean-Pierre (september 2020)

This week I spent a very pleasant afternoon at the Spa de la Roche-Posay, I wasn't sure at first because of Covid, but once I arrived I realised that all the sanitary measures were in place, which made me feel safe. I relaxed and enjoyed the beautiful swimming pool and the sauna.

It's not the first time I've come to this Spa, where the service is always so professional and friendly, and the cleaning (I'm a bit of a neat freak) is also top notch. Anyway, Covid or not, I’d be very happy to come back.

A lovely mother daughter day spent at la Roche Posay, the staff is pleasant, the massages are relaxing, the whole experience felt really good. I recommend this Spa!

Julien G. (october 2019)

First time we tested the centre, and we've had a great weekend, very relaxing! Perfect for recharging our batteries after our wedding. The service is impeccable, and the surroundings of the spa are beautiful.
